Today I went on a bike ride. Just me. Today I went thrifting. Just me. Tomorrow I'm going to Seven Peaks. Just me.
I sat with my feet in the water at Bridal Veil and thought about how this summer really has been the "Summer O' Fun" for me...but I was thinking about how many of the "fun" things I've done have mostly been with myself. This is such a weird thing because I'm usually not okay with doing these kinds of things alone. I get energy from others. I love laughing with others. I love entertaining others! I am not going to lie, I love being the center of attention sometimes! (Okay, anytime I can be the center of attention is fine with me...) So I guess the weird thing is, I think I've actually come to a point where I'm no longer bothered by being alone.
It makes sense that I'm alone. I sorta really, truly am. ALL my best friends are married and having babies. My bikes rides used to consist of the whole gang. Me, Katie, Jackie, Kim, Kyra, Lindsey, Jared, Brock.... Slowly the group got smaller. Jared, Lindsey, Kyra, Me. Pretty soon it was just Lindsey and I. I loved those bike rides. People couldn't believe that a "princess" like me and a "granola" like Lindsey could be friends. It's interesting to see how much we each rubbed off on each other over the course of a couple years. What do you know Lin is getting married THIS month and I couldn't be happier for her.
So my bike rides are me, myself and I. Which is actually not a bad thing, now I can go however fast or slow I want and not worry about it. I can listen to my music and just think. I can sing at the top of my lungs and not have to worry about embarrassing anyone.
Where did all of this come from?
As I was biking up Provo Canyon today I was also thinking about how much of a mix between my mother and father I am. People at UVU who work with my dad tell me how much I am like him, while many of my relatives on my mother's side tell me how much I remind them of her. I decided on my bike ride today that I got the extremes from both sides.
I can walk into a party and start talking to strangers like my father, but I also really enjoy doing things on my own like my mother. I continue to grow to love the outdoors like my father, but I like to pamper and spoil myself like my mother. I don't know how to save money like my dad...I know how to spend it like my mom. Give me the hustle and bustle of the big city over a small town any day! Dad grew up in Salt Lake, Mom in Santa Monica--you decide wish one that falls under.
Needless to say, it has been a very exciting, adventurous, and contemplative day.
Surprise, surprise...my bike chain flew off whilst racing back down the canyon. Remember the time my bike PEDAL flew off? This wasn't nearly as dreadful because I was actually able to put it back on, unlike the pedal. However, it's a good thing this princess has taken her crown off because my hands got pretty greasy and dirty taking care of that thing without a man in sight. And afterwards, I just washed them in the drinking fountain with leaves from a tree. Look at me world. A princess would not have been able to do that.
I found some AMAZING things at DI while shopping for an outfit for our 80's themed Family Home Evening (FHE). I left with a bagful of skirts, belts and even this great pair of wedges...and nothing for FHE. Good thing I was able to resurrect this UNBELIEVABLE piece I purchased years ago. Yes, it's all one piece.
