The Planner

I don't really remember when my obsession with day planners came about. I feel like it's always been something I've done. I feel like I'm pretty up to speed with the digital world, but for some reason, I just can't ditch writing in my day planner. I absolutely love going to the bookstore at the beginning of the year and picking out a new planner. Crisp new pages. Ready for doodles and quotes and notes and coloring and highlighting.

Writing in my planner is the thing that gets me through boring work days and long classes at school. I open my planner up and review the things I need to do for the day and add any necessary items that need adding. Highlight the things of importance and use different colored pens to make notes and adjustments.

I hate scribbles or crossed out plans in my planner. Thank goodness for white out tape. My husband thought I was crazy when I ran to get white out from my backpack after he crossed out several things on the huge calendar we have hanging up on our fridge. The whole point of a calendar is to be able to glance at a particular day and be able to see exactly what you have planned or need to do without question or visual confusion. Crossed out 'would-be' plans just take up space and crowd the day.

It's nice that I married someone who likes to talk about schedules and plan for the week. He may not decorate his planner like mine, but I love that we can help each other be more organized and up to speed with the busy lives we both lead.

Long live the day planner!
